Today’s flashback song is ‘I’ll Be Missing You’ by Puff Daddy and Faith Evans featuring 112 that came out in 1997.
The song is a tribute to rapper Notorious B.I.G., who was shot and killed earlier that year at the age of 24. It’s hard to believe that to this day, his murder remains a mystery, with no information on who did it.
Being a close friend of Notorious B.I.G’s, Puff Daddy, or P. Diddy, or whatever he’s being called these days, felt the need to produce a song with his ‘Bad Boys’ label honouring him after he died, with B.I.G’s widow Faith Evans also appearing in the music video.
The video resonated with fans around the world, with ‘I’ll Be Missing You’ hands down one of Diddy’s most successful songs, winning a Grammy and being the number one hit all summer long in 1997.
Interestingly, the song is in the spotlight again, as Notorious B.I.G.’s son CJ is all grown up and recently launched a new cannabis brand called ‘Think BIG’, named after his late father.
And, who knows, perhaps P.Diddy played a role in inspiring CJ to be successful, just like he promised ‘Through your family, I’ll fulfill your dreams‘.
