If your not familiar with the term, ‘Squeasal’ that is a driver who consciously or subconsciously cannot wait and must use the right lane to blow by other vehicles patiently waiting as two lanes or more go down into one lane. A great example is NB into the Massey Tunnel when the counterflow is in. Four or Five lanes go down into one. The Squeasal will not wait in the busier lane. No. They have to get as far up in front of you as possible, and use your good nature and will towards fellow drivers and be let in rather than wait like the majority of us do.

That is a Squeasal.

Earlier today I was driving up 152nd from South Surrey. There are 2 lanes at the lights just before 152nd goes down to one way each way over Highway 99. If you get caught at those lights chances are someone will come up beside you and wait until the light turns green. Today this person hit their gas and charged ahead of me to get that lane first. Despite the fact that I had waited for that light a lot longer than they had.

You win. For now.

The next lights are at 152nd and the 32nd avenue. Same person ignored all the people in the left lane and blew by them when the light turned green. Again, having to be first.

A little further north after 36 avenue – once again – the lane foes down to one way each way and continues for a few kilometres to Colebrook Road. For third time the person went into the right lane, passed all the other cars waiting their turn, gunned it, and was first once again.

I didn’t see them again until I approached Highway 10 where I take a right. At last sighting i was making my right turn and the Squeasal was waiting for the lights to turn red.

My point is this – if you think that by blowing by everyone else and not being patient is going to help anyone get anywhere faster, think again.

So what’s the rush? Is it a deliberate thing or just a bad driving habit?

The Turtle always wins.

The Squeasal doesn’t.
