There has been alot of talk about peacocks lately, of course I’m talking about the Surrey peacocks. Let me start off by saying I am a huge lover of all animals and when I started hearing about these peacocks roaming the streets of a Surrey neighbourhood, I was very curious. They have been living in the neighbourhood of Sullivan Heights for many years ever since the houses were developed in the area because the farmer who sold the land just left them behind but took all of his other animals. He should have taken them too, I mean to just abandon them without any care after being cared for is just awful. He should have been forced by the city back then to take them with him when he sold the land.
Of course we know that didn’t happen, so for many years they have been living in the same area that they have only known, sleeping in a tree on a residents property and being fed by another neighbour. However for years the neighbour that has the tree on his property that the peacocks were sleeping in has been complaining to the city about the damage to his yard among other things.
He then made the decision to cut down the tree leaving the peacocks upset because that tree was like their house. They were heard crying as they wondered the streets in shock as some neighbours reported. He was fined $1000 and now some other neighbours are saying the peacocks are now causing destruction to their vehicles.
I myself do not agree with his decision to take down the tree and I am really concerned for the peacocks safety since there seems to be angry people at the peacocks and angry people at the neighbours who don’t want them there.
I would love to see them relocated to a nice farm where they can roam and live out the rest of their lives in safety, not a city street. So please city of Surrey can we make this happen?
