“If It Makes You Happy” was today’s Flashback from Sheryl Crow. It came out in 1996 but only peaked at #10 on the US Billboard Hot 100 Chart, however made it to #1 on the the Canadian Top Singles, Canadian Adult Contemporary and the Canadian Rock/Alternative Charts. We loved the song here apparently! Sheryl won Best Female Rock Vocal Performance at the 1997 Grammy Awards for the song.
On her VH1 Storytellers appearance in 1998, Sheryl said this was initially a country song, but she turned it into a rock song so she could get more exposure. She is a huge Tom Petty fan, and says that the song was in some ways inspired by the way he played. In 2011 she teamed up with chef Chuck White to write a cookbook called If It Makes You Healthy.
