You’re pushing yourself pretty hard in the gym, when all of a sudden you hit a wall. As you try to give your head a shake you try to think what you missed. You brought your head phones, water bottle and your favourite tunes ready to go. However you missed one important ingredient to your training your Pre-Workout Meal.

Supplying your body with proper nutrition before a workout is like giving your car gas before you hit the highway. What you eat before exercising will help you maximize the benefits of all your hard work at the gym. Ideally a small snack 30-60 min before or a well balanced meal 2-3hrs earlier is perfect.

Before a workout, it’s good to eat simple carbohydrates, because they are digested fast and provide quick energy. Don’t forget your protein, as strength training creates small tears in our muscle tissue. By providing easy digesting protein, the small tears are repaired, and more lean muscle tissue is created.

Pre workout snacks might consist of a protein smoothie with fruit or vegetables, greek yogurt with berries, rice cakes with some nut butter or some home made protein balls. If working out is a priority, then it is key to lay the nutrition groundwork to support the results you desire.
