I am thrilled to be running for Langley Township School Trustee. I have lived in Langley for 18 years and have 2 children that have been through the school system in Langley. I have worked for the Langley School District as an Education Assistant for 12 years and have seen first hand the changes that have occurred over time due to cutbacks and different funding configurations. Having watched Langley’s student enrollment decline and schools close, and then, in recent years, seeing enrollment increase and some schools struggle to meet those increased demands, I believe we need to be proactive and forward thinking in our school district’s plans for those increases.
I have spent the past 3 years as President of CUPE 1260, a union representing school support staff in the Langley school district. Unions are one of the district’s partner groups/stakeholders, and that role afforded me the opportunity to engage with the District Leadership Team on a regular basis. It was during that time that I saw opportunities to improve those relationships. We need to have great working relationships in order to retain and recruit great staff.
Together we can improve the Langley School District but I can’t do it without your support.
