This week on Tuesday June 4th 2019, Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) is presenting one woman from the Lower Mainland with an ‘honorary degree’ during their convocation ceremony, to recognize her work over the past 40 years in the education sector.
Janice Unwin is being presented with the Honorary Doctor of Laws.
In 1979, she was as a physical education teacher, a high school counsellor, and then went on to work in many different roles including elementary and secondary school principal, as well as superintendent in Maple Ridge and in Pitt Meadows.
Unwin has also been recognized for her work with the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Advanced Education to modernize the K-12 education system.
She says her advice to the new graduates is to “stay passionate in whatever adventure they embark upon”.
