The Great BC Shake Out is tomorrow (Oct 17, 2019) already at 10:17AM.
Also known as the “Largest Earthquake Drill in Canadian History”.
This is where students and staff stop what they’re doing and “Drop, Cover, & Hold On”.
According to shakeoutbc.ca , this means…
“DROP —- to the ground
Take COVER—- by getting under a sturdy desk or table (not doorway)
HOLD ON —- to it until the shaking/drill stops.”
The website also offers these pieces of advice:
“If there isn’t a table or desk near you, drop to the ground in an inside corner of the building and cover your head and neck- with your hands and arms.”
They say you are much more likely to be hurt by falling or even flying objects in an earthquake, than to perish in a downed building.
