Another day another project that has been delayed South of the Fraser. The Bailey Bridge, the wooden bridge that crosses the Nikomekl River via KGB, it has been delayed due to ongoing construction discussions with the city.
The Bailey Bridge has been in use since the 1980’s.
The Bailey bridge is a type of portable, pre-fabricated, truss bridge. It was developed by the British during World War II for military use and saw extensive use by British, Canadian and US military engineering units.
Although they say the lifespan can be up to 70 years, once your tires hit the wooden planks you fell like this could be that moment when the bridge hits it’s expiry date and you and your vehicle could enjoy a nice refreshing cold water bath consisting of brackish water and leaking gasoline.
So why take the chance?
Rather than continuing to put it off, time to replace it with something a little more, shall we say, stable?
