The minimum wage in this province went up $1.30 today. Was $11.35 yesterday – it’s now up to $12.65. Servers also seeing an increase from $10.10 to $11.40. This will happen every June 1st until 2020 when the wage goes up to just over $15/hour and that will be the same for servers as well as the separate wage will be eliminated. A small victory for those earning minimum wage but will it really help someone living South of the Fraser? Let’s be honest, someone living in parts of BC where it is cheaper to live may see a few more shekels in their pockets, but for those living here and dealing with rising gas prices, insurance, and food costs…

Surrey Food Bank says although it will provide some relief, they don’t expect to see much of a drop in the 14,000 people using the food bank every month. 14,000 too many.
